Widows and Orphans Committee Report

For the Month of August, 2009

Last July 7, 2009, with the initiative of Worshipful Master Reynato "Ringo" Puno Jr., the Committees on Masonic Education/Instruction and Widows and Orphans/Outreach met at the Causeway Restaurant at Timog Avenue, Quezon City. WM Ringo Puno presided over the meeting. Also present were the following Hiramites: Chicho Bawagan (the Vice Chairman of the Masonic Education/Instruction Committee), Deng Amisola, Eugene Dalican, Steve Dalican, JP Calma, Elmer Chua, Edsel Miguel and myself (the Chairman of the Widows and Orphans/Outreach Committee). Emil de los Santos, Michael Masangkay, Royce Reyes, Charleston Tan, and  Jun Torres were also there.

This report is about what was discussed for the Widows and Orphans/Outreach Committee:

Here I presented my idea specifying the purpose of the existence of this committee: To provide/sustain for the 3 basic concerns of our widows and orphans who find themselves in severe financial adversity, namely: 1) Educational expenses due to financial constraint; 2) decent place to live in times of calamity; and 3) financial capability in case of emergency.

Also presented on how we can provide and extend help to them financially: by extending financial assistance for the educational expenses, by regular support given to widows and orphans and by providing one-off grants when help is urgently needed.

Discussion was open on how to make this possible. WM Puno stressed the potential sources to finance this objective such as implementing of strategic projects. Later on, the proposal for educational support for the orphans and emergency assistance for the widows were approved.

Details on the qualifications for the assistance will be discussed thoroughly in the next meetings to make sure that the program will be provided to the qualified widows and orphans.
